When a very close and special friend asks you to be their wedding photographer you jump at the chance. An opportunity to offer something back to the people we love in thanks for their help and support over the years. However, once the reality of realising what you have just signed up for kicks in the nerves and fears overwhelm the feel good feeling you initially had!
No matter how many weddings you have photographed all good wedding photographers feel the internal patter of nerves on the big day. It’s the adrenaline that helps drive and focus our creativity. The slightly sick feeling I have before a wedding is important to me; it means I’m excited and I care very much about the events of [...]
Becca and Will had the honour of being granted permission to marry at St Mary in Castro church in the grounds of Dover Castle due to her families connection with the castle.
The vicar had very strict rules about photography during the ceremony so we snuck back in once their guests had left for the Old Kent Barn wedding reception. Taking full advantage of the amazing backdrop I took many beautiful images, however this photograph presented itself just as we were leaving.
I love this picture because of how the light captures Becca’s bone structure and detail on her dress against the backdrop of the dark church. It was a sweet intimate moment and one of my favourites from their album.
Light to a photographer [...]
The glamorous wedding of Graham Taylor and the now Carly Taylor at The Spa Hotel on 15th August 2015.
I knew this wedding was going to be a relaxed but well planned day when I first met Graham and Carly at their home in Maidstone. Having been together for a number of years and with two children, Maisie and baby Jake, they just wanted to officially declare their love for one another in a fuss free environment with their friends and family.
As with most large hotels The Spa Hotel ensures your day runs like clockwork leaving the bride and groom to enjoy their day.
I think if I had to pick my favourite part of the day it would have been the bridal [...]
Imagine my excitement when I found out that Becca and Will had been granted permission to get married in Dover Castle church, St Mary in Castro followed by their reception at the Old Kent Barn in the beautiful Kent village of Swingfield.
Becca had been meticulously organising her big day for over a year and this was so evident in how smoothly and relaxed the day proved to be. Children and adults had been suitably catered for leaving Becca and Will to enjoy sharing their love with their friends and family.
Now to say that Becca was one of the most organised brides I had ever met would be true, unfortunately her organisation did not extend to her time keeping which I found out whilst [...]
Well in true April style the sun was shining and the wind was howling but nothing was going to detract from this very special day. Emma and Michael had booked me over a year ago and in that time our business relationship had developed into a friendship.
I knew from our first meeting at Lympne Castle, where Michael was trying to hunt out secret rooms whilst Emma was trying to finalise booking arrangements, that their day would be full of laughter and emotion. I was not disappointed; from beginning to end I had a big smile on my face.
Emma had chosen the cottage to get ready, which is packed with bags of character. In true bridal preparation tradition the Prosecco was flowing and a [...]
I was lucky enough to share an amazing trip to Sri Lanka with my best friend and partner, Jon. Having never been anywhere like this before we both felt excited and a little trepidation! As soon as the plane touched down our nervous excitement was replaced with admiration and exploration. I was like a a kid in sweet shop, eyes wide open trying to take in every ounce of colour, smell and texture; it was a total sensory over load. Jon on the other hand fell asleep in the passenger seat next me.
From Colombo we travelled to the heart of Sri Lanka, their former capital, Kandy. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and in the short time we shared together he definitely became our estranged [...]
A cold, wet, windy November day perfect for standing in a field with excitable dogs and the Best Behaviour School for Dogs Team; who were just as excitable and probably slightly more tricky to control!
A year ago I did the same shoot but with only three members of the team, now there are eight eager dog lovers led by Pippa Ducat the Company Director and also my very lovely friend. We only had a small window of opportunity before the looming black cloud deposited its contents on what was already a very muddy field. Pippa was keen to get the vans in the background so I used my trustee 17mm – 40mm to ensure maximum width. As always the better pictures are the most [...]
The Duke of Cumberland is on fire with their band listings at the moment and last night was no exception to their great choice of varied music artists. Joe Driscoll and Sekou Kouyate, Joe a rapper from New York and Sekou a kora player (West African harp) from Guinea, accompanied by a drummer and a base guitarist; who had the coolest guitar I’ve ever seen!
Joe and Sekou met at a festival in Marseille in 2010 and were given a week to produce a concert, the only problem being Joe couldn’t speak French and Sekou couldn’t understand English. The only way they could communicate was through their music, which resulted in them forming a band, releasing an album and performing all over the world. Joe [...]
