Keeping in the tradition of a typical British Easter, Ben and Lucy’s wedding was being hotly pursued by storm Katie resulting in unseasonably cold temperatures. Luckily for them they had chosen the beautiful Old Kent Barn at Smersole Farm, Swingfield as their marriage venue. The Old Kent Barn is a dedicated wedding venue. The events managers and their team meticulously help you plan your wedding day down to the very last detail. I cannot recommend them highly enough in terms of their professional but relaxed service. This combined with Lucy’s precision and creativity equaled a perfect day. Come rain or shine the barn is set up, inside and out, to provide a perfect backdrop to exchange your vows. Ben and Lucy’s ceremony was surrounded by fairy lights and a large illuminated LOVE lit up on the stage.
But let’s rewind just a little. Normally I would be worried for the girl’s heads if I saw two magnum size bottles of Prosecco, a bottle of apple sours and a can of Stella during the bridal prep but today I was not concerned. Lucy, her mum and her six bridesmaids were more than happy to keep the bubbles flowing throughout the morning. I always try and allow a couple of hours coverage for the bridal preparation. It gives the bride an opportunity to feel comfortable with me in an informal way. There are some special moments at this stage and Lucy’s dad, Colin was one of them when he arrived and saw how beautiful Lucy looked in her wedding dress.
I couldn’t imagine a large barn looking cozier than it did when Lucy walked down the aisle. Technically low light can be difficult to compensate but the last thing I would do is flood the barn and couple with flashlight whilst they exchange their vowels. After the ceremony we did venture into the wind for some romantic photographs. Lucy was hoping to get married under the gazebo so it seemed right to use this as our backdrop.
Lucy & Ben wanted their guests to have as much fun as possible and so had arranged for a caricaturist, a dressing up photo booth and after the wedding breakfast the guests were entertained with Lucy and her Hen’s rendition of Grease filmed on their hen night. It was hilarious and quite clearly a very fun night. As well as the laughter Colin, Ben and Matt’s (best man) speech managed to get their guests grabbing for the Kleenex. Funny and emotional at the same time :)
Congratulations Mr & Mrs Robbins your day was perfect and your friends and family a pleasure to document.
