The Ferry House Inn Wedding Photography | Kent Wedding | Amy & Ben
The Ferry House is a perfect all year round wedding venue. It has beautiful gardens and a gazebo for summer weddings and a romantic and cosy barn for weddings during the rest of the year. I was lucky to shoot Amy and Ben’s wedding there in September. I say ‘lucky’ because autumn is my favourite time of year for weddings, plus these two soul mates where an absolute dream to spend time with and it was a joy to photograph their love.
A wilderness wedding venue
The Ferry House is a beautiful 16th Century Country Public House that sits alongside the Swale Estuary in Harty, on the Isle of Sheppey. As well as weddings they offer 4* accommodation and pride themselves on cooking home-grown and locally sourced food. If you’ve ever been to the Isle of Sheppey you’ll know it feels like you’re driving into the wilderness. The Ferry House Inn and Mocketts Farm, self-catering accommodation nearby, are at the end of a very long and remote, winding road. If you’re looking for exclusivity and a rugged landscape this is the place to get married. Unfortunately, the hazy late summer day we had hoped for was replaced by a very windy and overcast autumnal day. This did not worry Amy and Ben during their couple shoot, as you will see.
Bride and groom prep photography
If I can, I will always spend time with the groom and his groomsmen. Groom prep photographs add more to the story and I know my brides love to see what their partners get up to before the ceremony. Amy, her mum and team bridesmaids chose to get ready at Mocketts Farm. Leaving Ben and his entourage at the pub and use of the bridal suite. Mocketts Farm has four self-catering cottages and each one is perfectly decorated for bridal prep photography. When I arrived a hallway full of balloons greeted me, just one of Ben’s little surprise for his wife to be. Of course Amy had equally arranged a surprise and so myself and Chloe, her lovely videographer, went off to photograph Ben opening lots of thoughtful gifts; all disguised in a Dominos pizza box. This also gave us a great opportunity to document Ben’s final getting ready touches. Back at bridal prep, Amy was ready to get into her stunning boho inspired dress from Alta Costura.
The barn looked so warm and inviting and a complete change to the wind blowing outside. I love photographing barn weddings, especially when they have been so beautifully decorated by the talented Idyllic Days. Amy and Ben had also written their own wedding vows in addition to the formal vows. Ben’s words made Amy smile even more than she was already and OMG that look of love in Ben’s eyes as she read hers, it was so romantic. After the ceremony I asked everyone to line up for the confetti tunnel, probably one of my favourite shots of the day. Made even better this time by the wind. Can I also add that I’m totally all for dogs at weddings! If you want to bring your pet pooch to the day I will be a happy photographer.
A Vogue wedding shoot
I say this because Amy said in her testimonial that I made her and Ben look like they were in a Vogue magazine shoot. Of course that wasn’t my intention but they were both so up for embracing the wind and the rugged riverbank, whilst looking absolutely gorgeous. It just kind of ended up that way! By this point the light was beginning to turn a dusky pink colour and I knew the natural pontoon would be a perfect place for them to connect for their couple photos. It’s such an honour to document two people so very much in love.
Time for wedding celebrations
Back in the marquee Amy’s dad was preparing for his father of the bride speech. He didn’t let his daughter down with a heartfelt and funny presentation. Ben’s best man and step dad was also hilarious and really got their guests in the mood for the evening party celebrations. After the dad and daughter dance and of course Amy and Ben’s first dance as husband and wife the Twang Rumble Band helped everyone party the night away.

It has been known for me to shed a tear during the wedding ceremony but not at multiple points throughout the day! Mascara and cameras already don’t mix but add to those leaking eyes and you’ve got a problem. This wedding was an emotional roll coaster and it started...
let's get this conversation started
“I can't tell you how much we love the photos. They really are just ‘fantastic’. Looking through them genuinely did take us back through all the excitement and emotions of the day, which was always what we hoped for from wedding pictures! I don't know how you manage to capture so much feeling and sentiment but you did and we have had so much enjoyment looking through them and reliving it all. Thank you for doing such a wonderful job, we couldn't be happier with them! We were overwhelmed with the slideshow too, what a generous and wonderful thing of you to do! It brings shivers down my spine watching it and - we absolutely loved it with the music!! We will really treasure that forever ‘thank you’!”
